The Mid-Missouri Model Sailing Club was founded in Columbia, Missouri
in
February, 2001. Initially the club's racing fleet consisted of five
boats, two CR 914s, two Fairwind 900s, and a US 1 Meter. After sailing
a few tune-up races during March and April, on May 6 those five boats
participated in the first official M3SC RaceDay, and the club
continued to conduct handicap racing twice a month from then until the
end of November. Interest grew rapidly as folks learned about M3SC by
word of mouth, via this website, and by dropping in after noticing us
racing while they were driving by. (Our sailors are extraordinarily
generous with their boats and time, often helping guests and drop-ins
sail more races than they themselves do on a given Sunday afternoon).
By the end of the 2001 season M3SC's membership had more than tripled in size. The
CR 914 quickly proved to be the most popular boat, and by the end of
the 2002 season there were 13 '914s in the club. CR 914s now race as a one-design fleet, and
potential new members are strongly encouraged to buy or build a '914
in order to race one-design, although boats of other classes will be
welcome to join us and race with M3SC in a
separate handicap fleet.

CR 914s racing on
Lake Elsdon
This 10X telephoto shot was taken from the south end of the

The growth and success that M3SC has enjoyed has
been recognized nationally. In 2003 we were invited to run the annual
Championship of Committees Regatta, which
is usually sailed in full-scale sailboats, for the
United States
Sailing Association at its Annual Meeting in St. Louis. One of our members
has served on the Board of Directors of the
American Model Yachting
Association and currently serves as the national Class Secretary of the CR
914 Class. And we have even received publicity in the local press (click
here to read an article about M3SC that was published in the Columbia
Missourian).
Our
bylaws are simple. We
race twice a month on Sunday
afternoons, and try to
sail 12 to 16 races in 2 1/2 hours each day. Our venues include
Lake Elsdon (for directions and
maps of the route from I-70 to Lake Elsdon,

Stephens Lake, and
Twin Lakes in Columbia. Our club is very informal, our
racing rules are brief, and our
primary objective is to have fun. We welcome visitors and encourage
them to sail our boats and race with us any time. When you decide to
become a member, our dues are only $15 per year. To learn more about
membership in M3SC, and the CR 914 class and the
American Model Yachting Association as well,
